… Former Ekiti governor says Oyo State was not proactive enough in handling the kidnapping incident

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has criticised the Oyo State Government over its handling of the recent abduction in Oriire Local Government Area, saying Governor Seyi Makinde was “not proactive enough.”

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television with Reuben Abati, Fayose said that while governors are not constitutionally recognised as the Chief Security Officers of their states, they still have a crucial role in tackling insecurity.

He explained that state governors are expected to mobilise security agencies, coordinate intelligence gathering, and ensure prompt action whenever security threats emerge.

Fayose also stressed that the Federal Government should support and complement the efforts of state governments rather than shoulder the responsibility alone.

Reacting to the recent kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, the former governor maintained that the state’s response was slow, arguing that a more proactive approach could have helped improve the outcome of the incident.
