Shettima says late monarch was a stabilising voice and champion of peace, education and community development
Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad-Sani II, as a profound loss to Jigawa State and Nigeria.
Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences during a visit to the late monarch’s family following his death in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026.
The late emir, who was the 16th Emir of Gumel, ascended the throne on December 16, 1980, and ruled for nearly 46 years.
Shettima said the monarch would be remembered for his long reign and contributions to peacebuilding, education, Islamic scholarship, community development and national unity.
He described the late emir as a father, bridge-builder and stabilising voice whose wisdom served his people and the country for decades.
The Vice President said President Tinubu held the traditional ruler in high esteem and recognised his contributions to peace and community development.
Shettima extended the Federal Government’s condolences to the royal family, Gumel Emirate Council and the people of Jigawa State, praying for the repose of the monarch’s soul.
