First Lady calls for increased voluntary blood donation, saying a steady supply of safe blood is vital for saving lives and strengthening healthcare services nationwide.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians, especially young people, to embrace voluntary blood donation to help ensure a steady supply of safe blood for medical emergencies and life-saving treatments across the country.
In a message marking the 2026 World Blood Donor Day on Sunday, Mrs Tinubu described blood donors as “true heroes” whose selfless acts continue to save millions of lives and offer hope to patients battling critical illnesses.

The First Lady noted that voluntary blood donation remains a key pillar of a resilient healthcare system, stressing that a safe and reliable blood supply is essential for improving healthcare delivery and outcomes nationwide.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Honoring the Heroes of Life,” she encouraged more Nigerians to participate in regular blood donation programmes, emphasizing that every donation contributes directly to saving lives and strengthening the nation’s healthcare system.
Mrs Tinubu also joined the global community in celebrating blood donors worldwide, commending their compassion and sacrifice in supporting patients in urgent need of transfusions and other critical medical care.
