FRSC blames speeding and dangerous reversing by truck driver for deadly collision at Saapade Bridge.

No fewer than 10 people have been killed and six others injured in a fatal road crash at Saapade Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident involved a Sinotruk truck and a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 18 occupants. The victims included 15 adult males, two adult females and one male child.

According to the FRSC, 10 people, nine adult males and one male child died in the crash, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two passengers escaped unhurt.

The Corps attributed the accident to speeding, dangerous driving and wrongful overtaking, revealing that the truck driver allegedly reversed on the highway after missing his route. The approaching bus, travelling at high speed, rammed into the truck while attempting to pass through the limited space.

Rescue officials evacuated the injured to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara. The Nigeria Police has taken custody of the vehicles involved.

The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists, especially commercial drivers and truck operators, to avoid reversing on highways, speeding and other dangerous traffic violations capable of causing avoidable tragedies.
