The ancient town of Ipokia in Ogun State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the 46th Onipokia of Ipokia Kingdom, Oba Yisa Sola Adeniyi Olaniyan (Orijajoogun I).

The first-class traditional ruler reportedly died in the United States on Saturday after a brief illness, according to palace sources.
Oba Olaniyan was crowned the 46th Onipokia of the historic Ipokia Kingdom in August 2020, succeeding to one of Ogun State’s revered traditional stools.
Before ascending the throne, the late monarch had an accomplished career in the United States. He studied Criminal Justice at the University of Houston-Downtown and worked in both the aviation and oil and gas industries before venturing into renewable energy and community development.
During his reign, Oba Olaniyan earned a reputation as a forward-thinking monarch who combined his international experience with a deep commitment to preserving the culture and traditions of the Ipokia Kingdom.
His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief among residents, traditional institutions, and well-wishers, who have continued to pay tribute to his legacy of service and leadership.
Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the palace and the Ipokia Traditional Council in due course.
