Opposition party calls for detailed account of subsidy proceeds, questions impact of reforms amid rising cost of living.

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called on the Federal Government to publish a detailed and independently verifiable account of the funds generated from the removal of the fuel subsidy since May 2023.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said Nigerians deserve to know how the proceeds have been utilised, especially as citizens continue to grapple with rising fuel prices, inflation and worsening economic hardship.

The APM argued that despite government claims that subsidy savings are being invested in key sectors, there has been no transparent public record showing the total amount realised, how the funds were spent, the beneficiaries of the interventions and their impact.

The opposition party urged the President Tinubu administration to release a comprehensive report on the subsidy savings, insisting that the success of economic reforms should be measured by visible improvements in the lives of Nigerians rather than official assurances.
