Minister of Education

FG attributes security alert to technical SSL certificate issue, dismisses reports of cyberattack on education data platform.

The Federal Ministry of Education has denied reports that the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS) was hacked, insisting that the platform remains secure and fully operational.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry described claims of a cyberattack as inaccurate and misleading, stating that no breach, unauthorised access, or data compromise occurred.

According to the ministry, the warning message encountered by some users resulted from an SSL certificate configuration issue at the hosting level and not from any security incident.

It explained that the temporary problem affected the platform’s secure access certification but did not lead to data loss, record alteration, or exposure of sensitive information.

The ministry said its technical team worked with the hosting provider to resolve the issue promptly, restoring normal service operations.

It further clarified that browser security alerts linked to SSL certificates should not be mistaken for evidence of a cyberattack, noting that such warnings can arise from routine technical or configuration challenges.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the NEMIS platform through regular system monitoring, security assessments, and infrastructure protection measures.
