State government urges residents to embrace peace, unity, and harmony as Muslims celebrate Hijira 1448AH.

The Osun State Government has declared Wednesday, June 17, 2026, a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year, Hijira 1448AH.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderibigbe, who said the celebration signifies the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year.

Aderibigbe extended the government’s greetings to Muslims across the state and prayed for peace, prosperity, and unity in Osun.

He also urged residents to use the occasion to promote harmony and togetherness, while avoiding actions capable of causing division or conflict.

The commissioner encouraged citizens to participate peacefully in the celebrations and embrace the values of unity and mutual respect associated with the Islamic New Year.
