Orientation camp reduced to six weeks as government prioritises skills, entrepreneurship, digital transformation and youth empowerment.
The Federal Government has approved far-reaching reforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), introducing a series of changes aimed at making the scheme more relevant to the needs of today’s graduates and the evolving labour market.
Among the approved reforms is the transition of the NYSC from military to civilian leadership, marking a significant shift in the administration of the scheme.

The government also approved a reduction in the orientation camp duration to six weeks, alongside a renewed focus on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and employability to better prepare corps members for life after national service.
Other reforms include aligning corps members’ primary assignments more closely with their fields of study, expanding digital transformation to improve service delivery, strengthening governance, accountability and funding structures, and enhancing collaboration with state governments, local governments and the private sector.
The reforms also place greater emphasis on innovation, productivity and youth empowerment as part of efforts to reposition the NYSC to better serve Nigeria’s development needs.
