Three-week rehabilitation to prepare facilities for police training as NEC endorses new national social protection policy.
The Federal Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across the country ahead of the commencement of training programmes by the Nigeria Police Force.
The rehabilitation, expected to last three weeks, was disclosed on Thursday in Abuja during the 160th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The development was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
The NEC also endorsed the Revised National Social Protection Policy (NSPP) 2026–2030, aimed at improving coordination, financing, implementation, monitoring and accountability in social protection programmes across the country.
The policy provides for the establishment of a National Social Protection Council, chaired by Shettima, with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning serving as its secretariat.
Speaking at the meeting, Shettima urged the council to sustain ongoing economic reforms until they translate into more jobs, stronger purchasing power, increased business confidence and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
He stressed that government policies must be followed through with measurable results, warning that new priorities should not overshadow unfinished commitments.
Shettima said continuity was essential to accountability and public confidence, noting that Nigerians must be able to see and feel the impact of government policies in their daily lives.
