Motorists advised to use alternative routes as lane reduction causes expected traffic congestion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Federal Government has commenced the reconstruction of the failed expansion joint on Kara Bridge (Outward Lagos) along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, urging motorists and organisations to take precautionary measures to minimise traffic disruptions during the exercise.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that the project is a critical safety intervention aimed at preventing crashes, preserving the structural integrity of the bridge and ensuring safer travel for road users.

According to the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to provide a safe working environment for construction personnel.
He noted that the temporary lane reduction is expected to cause traffic congestion, particularly along the outward Lagos-Ibadan corridor.
To ease pressure on the affected route, Hamzat appealed to organisations, institutions and businesses whose operations permit remote work to allow their employees to work from home throughout the reconstruction period.
“This measure will significantly reduce vehicular traffic and relieve commuters of unnecessary delays and stress,” he said.
The Sector Commander also advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead, avoid peak travel periods where possible and make use of alternative routes, including the Ikorodu–Sagamu Expressway and the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
He urged road users to exercise patience, drive cautiously and comply with the directives of traffic officials deployed along the corridor.
Hamzat warned against one-way driving and other traffic violations, stressing that offenders would be apprehended and sanctioned in accordance with the National Road Traffic Regulations.
The FRSC said it has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Works, the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, traffic management agencies and emergency responders to deploy adequate traffic control personnel and operational resources to minimise disruptions and ensure the safety of motorists and construction workers.
The Command appealed for the understanding and cooperation of road users, noting that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to deliver a safer and more durable Kara Bridge for the motoring public.
