New platform promises more channels, clearer picture quality, and access to Nigerian content at no monthly cost.
The Federal Government is set to officially launch FreeTV today, June 17, 2026, providing Nigerians with access to a subscription-free digital television platform.
The initiative is designed to expand access to quality television services by offering households across the country a wide range of digital channels without monthly subscription charges.

According to the government, FreeTV will deliver clearer picture quality, improved sound, and increased access to educational, entertainment, news, sports, and locally produced Nigerian content.
The platform is expected to support the country’s digital broadcasting transition while promoting indigenous content and expanding information access to millions of Nigerians.

With the launch, households equipped with compatible digital television receivers will be able to enjoy multiple channels free of charge, making television viewing more affordable and accessible nationwide.
Government officials say the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and enhance access to information and entertainment for citizens across the country.
