Agency Warns Against Four Medicines Over Quality Defects, Contamination Concerns
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted healthcare professionals, importers, distributors, retailers and the public to the recall of four medicines by Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP).
The affected medicines are Nitras, Kadin 2, Acefyl and Loratadine 24, which were recalled over quality defects, contamination concerns and failure to meet regulatory standards.
NAFDAC warned that the use of adulterated or substandard medicines could lead to treatment failure, reduced therapeutic effectiveness, unexpected adverse reactions and other serious health consequences.
The agency said patients using the affected medicines for conditions including cardiac problems, allergies, muscle spasms and cough-related illnesses could be at increased risk of complications.
NAFDAC said monitoring was ongoing to prevent the recalled products from entering Nigeria, while its zonal directors and state coordinators had been directed to conduct surveillance and remove the medicines if found.
Importers, distributors, healthcare facilities, pharmacies and members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and avoid procuring or distributing any affected batches.
NAFDAC also advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report suspected sales of substandard or falsified medicines and medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
