Agency warns Nigerians against importing, selling or consuming Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix over health risks.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against the importation, distribution and consumption of two banned alcoholic energy drinks confiscated by authorities in Ghana.

In a public alert issued on Friday, the agency identified the affected products as Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix, saying they were seized by the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority during a regulatory operation in the Upper East Region.

NAFDAC explained that the products had been prohibited due to concerns over the health risks associated with combining alcohol and stimulant ingredients commonly found in energy drinks.

According to the agency, the stimulant content can mask the effects of alcohol intoxication, increasing the risk of excessive drinking, impaired judgment, cardiovascular complications, dehydration, sleep disorders and alcohol-related accidents, particularly among young people.

The agency directed importers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to ensure the products are not brought into or sold in Nigeria. It also urged consumers to verify that beverages are duly registered by NAFDAC before purchase.

NAFDAC further appealed to members of the public to report any sighting of the products or adverse reactions linked to their consumption through the nearest NAFDAC office or the agency’s official reporting platforms.
