… former Deputy Senate President cites political developments in Delta APC, says his goals are better pursued outside the ruling party.

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, citing recent political developments within the party.

His resignation was announced in a statement dated May 22, 2026, signed by his media adviser, Sunday Areh, and made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Omo-Agege had earlier submitted a resignation letter to the APC Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area, confirming that his decision takes immediate effect.

The former senator explained that after consultations with his political associates and supporters, he concluded that remaining in the party would no longer allow him to effectively pursue the interests of Delta Central Senatorial District, Delta State, and Nigeria.

He stated that his political objectives and those of his constituents would be better served outside the APC, adding that he could not remain in a party where he would be unable to advance the interests of the people he represents.

Omo-Agege also appreciated the APC for providing him the platform to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate between 2019 and 2023.

He further requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership records, registers, and communication platforms.

Despite leaving the ruling party, the former Deputy Senate President maintained that his commitment to the development of Delta Central and Nigeria remains unchanged, stressing that he would continue pursuing those goals outside the APC.

However, he is yet to announce the political party he intends to join.

Political observers say the resignation could trigger fresh alignments within the Delta political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
