Akpabio, Idris, Oyetola, Doguwa, Alake visit Presidential Villa hours before official campaign season begins.
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a series of closed-door meetings with senior political and government officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, hours before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
The meetings came ahead of August 19, 2026, the date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the commencement of political campaigns.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio arrived at the President’s office around 6:12 p.m., while Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris was already at the Villa for a meeting with President Tinubu.
Member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, was also seen arriving at the President’s office around 7:15 p.m.
His visit followed his participation in the National Peace Committee’s signing of the peace accord for the 2027 elections in Abuja earlier in the day.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola also visited the Villa, while Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake was seen at the Presidential complex ahead of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting.
The agenda of the meetings was not disclosed, as the officials did not speak with journalists after their visits.
The engagements came as political parties and candidates prepare to begin campaigns for the 2027 general elections following months of political mobilisation across the country.
