Lagos governor condemns attack on critical infrastructure, says bridge remains structurally sound.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.

The governor, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Friday, described the incident as “barbaric and criminal” and warned that anyone found culpable would face the law.

Sanwo-Olu said officials of the Office of Infrastructure had inspected the bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.

He added that remedial work would commence immediately to protect the affected bridge columns.

“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” he said.

The governor condemned the incident as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable”, stressing that the state would not tolerate attacks on critical infrastructure and public facilities.

He urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the relevant authorities.
