Vice President says break will focus on study, reflection and preparation for continued implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will begin a two-week leave on Thursday, August 6, 2026, following approval by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
According to a statement, the Vice President will use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal to strengthen his capacity for national service.
The leave, the statement said, will enable Shettima to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating strategic government initiatives in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He also chairs the National Economic Council (NEC), which comprises the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials responsible for economic policy and national development.
The Vice President has equally represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
The statement reaffirmed Shettima’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s administration, noting that he remains dedicated to the ideals of loyalty, duty and service.
He is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave with renewed energy and commitment to national service.
