… former Ekiti governor insists insecurity should not be blamed solely on the Federal Government, alleges Oyo schoolchildren abduction may have been politicized.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticisms over Nigeria’s worsening security and economic challenges, arguing that the president inherited a difficult situation from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Channels Television, Fayose said Tinubu chose to confront the problems he met in office rather than publicly distance himself from his predecessor. According to him, despite mounting criticism from opposition figures and concerned Nigerians, the president has remained focused on addressing the country’s challenges and should not be held solely responsible for issues that predated his administration.

Commenting on the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, Fayose insisted that state governments also bear significant responsibility for security, noting that governors receive security votes and have local security outfits such as Amotekun at their disposal.

He controversially suggested that the incident may have been partly orchestrated or politicized to embarrass the Tinubu administration, while claiming that the Oyo State Government was slow to respond until after political nomination activities had ended. Although he described the kidnapping as unfortunate and painful, Fayose maintained that insecurity should not be blamed entirely on the Federal Government, stressing that state governments have a crucial role to play in protecting lives and property within their jurisdictions.
