Stakeholders agree to strengthen unity after Deputy Governor’s meeting, with government directing the removal of illegal structures within seven days.

Leaders of the Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ojoo, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, have reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence following the violent disturbance that rocked the area.

The resolution was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Oyo State Government and chaired by Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal. The meeting brought together community leaders, local government officials and security agencies to restore peace and prevent further violence.

Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of the Yoruba Community in Ojoo, Chief Sholagbade Azeez, said both communities accepted the government’s resolutions and pledged to work together to maintain peace. He added that one of the key decisions was the removal of shanties identified as security concerns within the area.

A leader of the Hausa Community, Abubakar Musa, also commended the government’s swift response, revealing that the Deputy Governor directed the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government to clear all illegal structures at the disputed location within seven days. He added that individuals claiming ownership of the land had been asked to provide relevant documents.

Musa stressed that the Hausa and Yoruba communities have enjoyed a long-standing peaceful relationship, insisting that those responsible for the violence were not recognised members of either community. He expressed confidence that the government’s intervention and continued collaboration among stakeholders would restore lasting peace to Ojoo.
