Presidential Working Group gives stakeholders additional time to submit memoranda and position papers on proposed policing reforms.

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has extended the deadline for the submission of memoranda and position papers on the proposed legislation to Friday, August 21, 2026.

The extension, which runs until 5:00 p.m. West Africa Time, is aimed at giving individuals, institutions and organisations additional time to prepare and submit substantive contributions to the proposed policing reforms.

Chairman of the working group and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

Gbajabiamila said the extension was necessary to ensure broad consultation and allow stakeholders to contribute informed perspectives on the future of policing and internal security in Nigeria.

He urged legal practitioners, civil society organisations, security professionals, state governments, academics, professional bodies and other interested Nigerians to take advantage of the extended deadline.

All submissions must be made on or before 5:00 p.m. WAT on Friday, August 21, 2026, exclusively through the official National Policing Bill portal, nationalpolicingbill.com, he said.

According to him, the proposed legislation will provide the operational, administrative, institutional and funding framework for an effective policing architecture while strengthening accountability, professionalism and the protection of citizens’ rights.

Gbajabiamila said stakeholders’ contributions should address critical issues including sustainable funding, command and control structures, recruitment and training standards, operational jurisdiction, inter-agency coordination, accountability and safeguards against political interference.

He said the working group would use the consultation process to develop a final, implementation-ready draft of the National Policing Bill for onward legislative consideration.

The group thanked stakeholders who had already submitted memoranda and encouraged others to use the additional period to contribute to the national policing reform process.
